When treating hair the energy of the laser light is used to prevent the regrowth of the hair. To do this the laser light has to penetrate several millimeters into the skin to reach the hair root. When it meets the melanin in the hair (brown colour) the light is absorbed, i.e. it is converted into heat. The darker, the thicker, the more dense the hair, the more heat is produced. This heat damages the cells within the hair and in the immediate area around the hair, which are responsible for hair regrowth. This ensures a drastic reduction of hair in the treated area.

Vascular skin lesions such as telangiectasia in the face are generally common cosmetic blemishes. Women consider such vascular ectasia as annoying as it is difficult to conceal them with make-up. Hair removal

When treating hair the energy of the laser light is used to prevent the regrowth of the hair. To do this the laser light has to penetrate several millimeters into the skin to reach the hair root. When it meets the melanin in the hair (brown colour) the light is absorbed, i.e. it is converted into heat. The darker, the thicker, the more dense the hair, the more heat is produced. This heat damages the cells within the hair and in the immediate area around the hair, which are responsible for hair regrowth. This ensures a drastic reduction of hair in the treated area.

At the same time one has to ensure that despite the heat produced no blisters or even scars develop. That’s why the wavelength of the high-power diode laser MeDioStar was chosen in a way that the absorption of the light is high in melanin, but low in water (important substance of the skin). In addition the handpiece of the MeDioStar includes a strong skin cooling, which always cools the most superficial layer of the skin immediately before the laser pulse. It also makes the treatment more convenient for the patient. At the same time it is possible to treat even dark skin types. In addition a special treatment mode (SmoothPulse) for larger areas can be used with our new MeDioStar NeXT making the laser pulse sensation hard to feel, even for sensitive patients. Due to the optimal design of the MeDioStar laser, side effects of more than slight redness and swelling around dark hair are very rare.

It is necessary to treat several times with an interval of 4 to 8 weeks, as in human beings the hair grows in certain phases and the melanin containing hair shaft is connected to the hair root in the growing phase only. But different hairs are never in this phase at the same time. It is individually different how many sessions are needed and whether one has to retreat after about one year. It is dependent on hair and skin type and on genetic predisposition as well. Normally people from Southern countries need more sessions.

 

 

Vascular treatment

For the treatment of fine, superficial vessels, which are common in the face, the green wavelength of the QuadroStar is highly suitable. The green light is strongly absorbed in the hemoglobin of the blood vessels. That means, the light is converted to heat, the blood vessel is damaged and disappears. The water in the surrounding of the vessel (tissue contains a high percentage of water) doesn’t absorb the green light at all which results in sparing the surrounding skin. The vessels are ‘erased’ immediately without unattractive purpura (purplish discoloration). Also the risk of pigment changes and scarring is very low.

Additionally one can treat solid and raised lesions as e.g. Xanthelasmas (cholesterine deposits) or warts.

For larger ectatic vessels, which are normally deeper in the skin as par example leg veins, the penetration depth of the green light is often not sufficient. Therefor a longer wavelength of light is necessary in the Near Infrared with sufficiently high power. The high-power diode laser MeDioStar of Asclepion Laser Technologies demonstrates here it’s versatility in a wide range of applications, e.g. removal of larger ectatic vessels and treatment of hemangiomas.

Skin Rejuvenation and Skin Whitening

There has been a great interest in non-invasive methods to effectively improve the skin texture without patient downtime.

The ablative lasers are able to achieve these results thanks to a light procedure which allows controlled dermal damage. Wound healing leads to skin remodeling and reduction of superficial wrinkles, skin toning and removal of pigmented spots in the epidermis.

The high power diode laser and APL is able to achieve these results thanks to a light procedure which allows to control thermal dermal damage, leading to subsequent collagen remodeling while preserving the epidermis. Skin Whitening with the laser destroys the melanin in the skin which leads to a whitening of the skin and even after sun exposure no tanning happens. A strong impulse of light is applied to the area to be treated, while the skin surface is cooled by a contact handpiece. The damaged melanin is reabsorbed by the lymphatic system and stimulates the fibroblasts in the skin to rebuild new collagen and elastin. New collagen and elastin leads to a skin tightening, improvement of skin appearance and pores and a more youthful look.
